In the continuing effort to promote the study of and research on the Civil War and to encourage efforts made toward the preservation of Civil War battlefields the Fort Worth Civil War Round Table is proud to announce the establishment of a new award - the Distinguished Service Award. Historian and Author John C. Jack is the author of 10 books on the Civil War and is a highly regarded speaker, tour leader and lecturer. He has been a long time supporter of the Fort Worth Civil War Round Table and has been a featured presenter for our group for many years.
His book "The Class of " is generally recognized as one of the best Civil War books ever written. Two examples that come to mind are: 1. It was a great idea and had the purpose of showing others how to be successful in writing history. Unfortunately, Grady passed away before completing it. When the idea was raised to use Grady's research and complete the book, Jack Waugh was asked to do the work with Judy Hallock and Drake Bush.
The book "How Historians Work" was the result. Jack has been and continues to be a major contributor to our organization and to the study of the Civil War. He is a worthy recipient of the Distinguished Service Award and we are pleased to be able to honor him. We are pleased to announce that Dr. His scholarship, support of others in the field, development of new historians and prolific and outstanding writings make him a most deserving honoree.
